Today of the Korean Academy of Film Arts is tomorrow of the Korean Cinema

When we talk about the new wave of Korean films, we can grasp several catchments. One of those catchments is no doubt the Korean Academy of Film Arts(KAFA). Since its establishment, it is so apparent that the graduates of KAFA have risen to become a leading influence on the Korean film industry without needing to name who each one of them are. Graduates of KAFA, who vigorously work and span across all aspects of the film industry including the production and technical areas, the academic world and of course as feature-film directors, are indicators showing KAFA's status and its vital role in the Korean film industry.

KAFA was established to overcome the estranged limitations of a theory-based college education which couldn't answer the demands of on-the-job skills. KAFA has become the grounds to realize young aspiring dreams through a hands-on education of film production. KAFA's educational goal carries a distinct aim called 'education through creation', which is no exaggeration to say that this phrase itself ignited the strength to reach that goal. But rigorous efforts to embody and realize this goal were needed. Adding the animation course to the directing and cinematography courses and establishing one more course, producing, are the result of those efforts in KAFA's short history. Although KAFA doesn't offer a degree, it does offer the essentials of professional training needed to be creative, it draws and shares moments between Korean and global film production experiences, and it offers courses where students apprehend techniques and wisdom at the same time.

Now at the time where the world has its eye on the rapid development and remarkable results of Korean films, KAFA promises to sincerely fulfill its role as a Mecca of Korea film education while cultivating people who will lead the trend of global films which go beyond Korea.
